Manchester city centre is set to burst into colour as the Manchester Flower Festival returns for the late May bank holiday weekend. Running from 23 to 25 May, the free annual event will once again turn key shopping streets and public spaces into floral showcases, attracting thousands of visitors and boosting footfall for local businesses.
Now in its ninth year, the festival has become one of the city’s most popular seasonal attractions and is often described as one of Manchester’s most photogenic events. This year’s theme, Green Manchester, focuses on sustainability and greener urban living, highlighting ways the city can continue to embrace plants, biodiversity and environmentally friendly design.
Five major floral installations will be displayed across St Ann’s Square, King Street and Exchange Street, transforming the city centre with creative blooms and immersive displays. Organisers say the installations are designed to celebrate Manchester’s growing commitment to greener spaces while creating eye-catching backdrops for visitors.
One of the headline attractions will feature Manchester horticulturist Jason Williams, better known as the Cloud Gardener. His display will show how people living in city flats and smaller homes can successfully grow plants and create their own indoor green spaces.
The Castlefield Viaduct has also inspired a temporary garden installation within a three-metre-wide walkway on King Street, bringing a touch of Manchester’s urban nature project into the heart of the shopping district.
The festival is organised by the Manchester City Centre Business Improvement District (BID), which represents around 600 businesses. With thousands expected to attend, the event is set to provide a welcome boost for retailers, cafés and restaurants over the bank holiday weekend.
Manchester Flower Festival continues to grow in popularity each year, combining floral creativity, community spirit and sustainability in one of the city’s standout spring events.
