Floral Design

National Flower Show @ Hylands House

For three days mid May, Hylands House near Chelmsford in Essex played host to Hollywood glamour when this year’s flower show took place. Competition Manager, Mig Kimpton (below), tasked his competitors to create floral art under the theme of “Hooray For Hollywood!” and they rose to the task magnificiently.

There were a total of six floral art classes; Class 1 – Lights! Camera! Action!, Class 2 – Star’s Dressing Table (a still life exhibit), Class 3 – Hollywood Glamour (a pedestal exhibit), Class 4 – Walt Disney World, Class 5 – The Borrowers (a petite exhibit) and Class 6 – The Floral Award (a craft exhibit).

Above; left to right: Sylvia Kittle 2nd in Class 1, Peter Bodnar 2nd in Class 3 and Barbara Groom 1st in Class 4.

Violeta Veikniene (below) clinched 1st in Class 1 and also got Best in Show for her stunningly immaculate design showing that her lady was most certainly ready for Lights! Camera! Action!

Mig himself decked a room in 007 glamour including with a shaken not stirred cocktail, while Morgan Douglas Nuth had great fun with four larger than life superheroes and Cloud Hill Flowers brought Jurassic Park to life in spectacular fashion with dinosaurs galore. At a later date, we will be showing some of these designs and a few more…

And floristry students from nearby Writtle College wowed the visitors in the Banqueting Room with their wedding themed creations – again we will be showcasing some of these soon.

Congratulations to everyone taking part – you blew our Editor away with your creativity!
