A landmark gathering of European and British floriculture and horticulture leaders took place at Europe House in London, highlighting the growing importance of cross-border collaboration in the sector. Hosted by the European Union Delegation to the United Kingdom, the “Flowers and Plants of Europe” event brought together policymakers, industry representatives and growers to celebrate the diversity and economic value of plants and flowers.
Exhibitors from countries including the Netherlands, Italy, Spain and the UK showcased a wide range of flowers, ornamental plants and seeds, reflecting both tradition and innovation within the industry. The event also featured a panel discussion titled “Sowing the Seeds of Success”, which explored key issues such as sustainability, supply chain resilience and the future of EU-UK trade.
Speakers emphasised the sector’s significant economic contribution. In the UK alone, horticulture was valued at £1.7 billion in 2023 and supports hundreds of thousands of jobs, while the EU’s ornamental horticulture sector generates around €20 billion.
A central theme was the need for a Sanitary and Phytosanitary agreement to streamline trade, reduce border delays and protect perishable goods.
Marking the beginning of Europe Month, the event underscored the shared commitment to sustainability, innovation and continued cooperation across the European floral industry.
