The biennial Singapore Garden Festival (SGF) brings together top award-winning landscape and garden designers, florists and horticulturists from around the world to team up with Singapore’s own talented horticulturists.
The first ever festival took place in 2006, and this year’s event – the 9th edition – runs from 3 to 11 August 2024 at the Suntec Singapore Convention and Exhibition Centre. It would be fair to say, that the event is staggering in size; it covers about 22,000 square metres on Levels 4 and 6 which is nearly the size of 18 Olympic-size swimming pools!
Over three days (3-5 August) there was much excitement as floral designers from around the world competed to see who would be crowned the winner of the Floral Windows to the World championship. The following took part:
Dayne Tyler Robinson, Australia; Stefan Van Berlo, Belgium; Lea Romanowski, Canada; Zhao Guanglong, China; Ahti Lyra, Estonia; Tamas Mezoffy, Hungary; Hiroto Inoue, Japan; Caroline Loo, Malaysia; Franca Logan, New Zealand; Iza Tkaczyk, Poland; Hungmo Joo, Republic of Korea; Bernard Son, Singapore; Coral Shortt, South Africa; Timo Bolte UK; Hoa Mai, Cherrie, USA and Khoi Ha, Vietnam.
News has just come in that Ahti Lyra of Estonia became the Champion with Hung Mo Joo, Momo from Republic of Korea being the first runner up and Hiroto Inoue from Japan the second runner up.
Their floral craftsmanship was overseen, evaluated and judged by Ms Alison Bradley (Head Judge), Mr Takumi Nakaya (Judge), Mr Harijanto Setiawan (Judge), Mr Bart Hassam (Technical Judge), Mr Max van de Sluis (Technical Judge) and Ms Petra Konrad (Technical Judge).
This event is a bucket-list event for many a floral enthusiast so mark your diaries now for the next one!
