A Vibrant Summer Design

In this exhilarating design, Sharon Dower @floralinnovations draws inspiration from an analogous colour palette reminiscent of the vibrant hues found in summer fruits such as plums, grapefruits, oranges, and lemons.

She explores an innovative approach by utilising disposable bamboo bowls within floral design and showcasing summery blooms which have been meticulously arranged atop the biodegradable bamboo base.

The versatility of this base extends far beyond its initial use, offering endless possibilities for repurposing across various events, seasons, and occasions. Whether as a charming table arrangement, an eye-catching window design, or even a unique wall hanging, its adaptability ensures continued aesthetic appeal throughout different settings and contexts.

Ingredients

Disposable bamboo bowls

Scissors

Elongated segment of floral foam

Hot glue gun and glue sticks

1/3 block of Oasis Bio

Wooden barbecue sticks

Assortment of summery blooms

Step by Step

Step 1

Begin by deconstructing the bamboo bowls, transforming them into strips of assorted lengths. Preserve five bowls intact to use on each end of the floral foam, thus sculpting a rounded shape for your arrangement.

Step 2

Opt for an elongated segment of floral foam, repurposing a section from a 5-foot cross frame commonly used by florists for crafting funeral tributes.

Step 3

Handle the floral foam in its dry state, starting the attachment of bamboo strips from one end along with an intact bamboo bowl (cut in half) to create a rounded edge. Adhere each section securely to both the front and back surfaces of the foam base using hot glue. Mould the bamboo strips to form a gently rounded shape at the end, enhancing the overall aesthetic appeal of the arrangement.

Step 4

Continue with this method until you have almost reached the opposite end.

Step 5

Use four complete sections of bamboo dishes and attach at the other end to ensure the foam is covered and the finish of the design is neat. Finish off by adding horizontal strips of bamboo to the bottom of the base to hide the glue and any part of the floral foam still visible.

Step 6

Prepare approximately 1/3rd of a block of floral foam by soaking it in water and attaching it to the base using wooden barbecue sticks which are inserted through the block of wet floral foam into the dry foam base.

Step 7

Arrange your summery blooms (e.g. ClematisCalendulaScabiosa, spray roses and Lisianthus) in an asymmetrical fashion by draping the flowers over the longest edge of the container. Gradually build the height of the arrangement by adding more flowers, aiming for a height that is roughly half the length of the container.

Embellish you design with candles and fruits.
